A cult classic from Frank Cornelissen, Susucaru Rosso is a field blend of primarily Nerello Mascalese, with smaller proportions of Alicante Bouschet, Minella, and Uva Francesa, sourced from organically farmed vineyards on the dramatic, volcanic slopes of Mount Etna. The lava-rich soils and high-altitude sites imbue the wine with both tension and elegance. Whole bunches are gently macerated, fermented with native yeasts, and aged in neutral vessels. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, with only a modest addition of sulphur.
Pale ruby in the glass, Susucaru Rosso 2023 is lifted and aromatic, with wild red berries, hibiscus, crushed herbs, and smoky volcanic dust. The palate is agile and transparent, combining juicy acidity with ultra-fine tannins and a distinctive mineral core. Light-bodied yet structured, it finishes with an earthy, almost ethereal persistence. A wine that defies category—alive, untamed, and unmistakably Etna.
